Kappa are another mysterious swamp and marsh dwelling creature who prey on unwary travelers, often hypnotizing and leading them into shallow waters where they are promptly drowned. Their bowl shaped heads contain a small amount of water when they surface, which is the source of their power. If the concavity is empty, the kappa is rendered helpless. In Hush Ronin #1, Shoji encounters a couple of kappa when he is unceremoniously cast into the ravine by the old man of the mountain.
